Every
Sunday we here at the Sri Sri Radha Govinda Temple conduct our special
weekly Sunday love feast program. The program consists of a class
on Bhagavad Gita. Bhagavad Gita is the sacred speech given by Sri
Krishna to His friend Arjuna. Another name for Sri Krishna is Yogeshwara
implying Him to be the supermost of all the yogis. This original
speech spoken by Sri Krishna contains the most sublime knowledge
of the universe and directs us to the pleasure we are constantly
seeking. Hence this universal knowledge is beneficial for everybody
to hear and understand and has nothing to do with any particular
religion or any type of faith. It is simply the science of the pure
truth. This wonderful knowledge spoken by Sri Krishna urges us to
realize our ‘Self’ through the recommended process of
Bhakti Yoga and reveals our original nature of eternal bliss and
knowledge.
The
class on Bhagavad Gita extends for about half an hour and the audience
is welcome to ask any questions. We then have a chanting session
also known as Harinam Sankirtan. We chant the Maha Mantra or the
Great Mantra of deliverance. This chanting is the stated in the
Vedic spiritual literatures as the best way to regain our original
blissful consciousness. We perform this chanting with drums and
cymbals and the vibration it generates is very sweet and pleasing
to hear. Most people express their appreciation for the chanting
and seem to enjoy it very much.
After
the chanting we usually show a 15 minute video of Srila Prabhupada
teaching the principles of Bhakti Yoga. Srila Prabhupada is a truly
amazing Bhakti yogi in the original disciplic succession from Krishna
Himself and is our Spiritual Master or Guru. He is also the worlds
most widely read Vedic author. The Encyclopedia Britannica reported
that his voluminous translations from the original Sanskrit and
his lucid commentaries “have astounded literary and academic
communities world- wide”.
To
conclude the wonderful evening we have a sumptuous vegetarian feast.
This food is made under highly clean standards by great cooks who
are studying the principles of Bhakti Yoga. Hence these ancient
vegetarian delicacies are sure to please everyone. We encourage
people to eat to their full satisfaction, as this food is all sanctified
because it is also offered lovingly to the Supreme Lord.
The
program is every Sunday evening starting at 6pm and usually goes
till about 9pm. Please note that there is no charge for anything
and everything is entirely free. People are welcome
to come and go as they like but in order to have a complete taste
of this wonderful program we encourage everyone to be present for
the whole evening. You are invited to come any and every Sunday
and are encouraged to bring friends and family as well. Everyone
is welcome.
